In My Kitchen - Mad Men Theme

Well friends, it's that time again! Welcome to the second installment of In My Kitchen. I'm excited to share a couple of new recipes with you, inspired by Mad Men. I've never watched the show, but C is a big fan. In order to get me caught up, we started with Season 1 last weekend! So far, I like it :) I made some food to go along with our theme. The night turned out to be so much fun!

I'm from the South so I've always had my deviled eggs with sweet pickle relish...I also saw several recipes out there using different kinds of mustard, but I stick with the yellow kind. Paula Deen is a woman after my own heart because her deviled egg recipe turned out just like my momma makes!

I'll admit that I actually didn't know how to properly hard boil an egg until the other night. Thank goodness for YouTube :) I watched the video below, and not only did the eggs come out perfect [no green around the yolk], but I also learned a neat trick on how to easily peel the eggs!

Let's see, I also made a baked onion dip and it was PHENOMENAL! I highly recommend this recipe for your next get together. I know some of you are probably not fans of onions [I personally can't get enough of them] but I promise you that this dip does not have an overwhelmingly onion-y flavor! I served it with sea salt bagel chips, carrots and celery sticks.

The original recipe makes a lot, but I cut the serving amount down to 6. My altered recipe went like this:

1 8 oz. package cream cheese
1 onion, finely diced
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 T mayonnaise

Another thing I did differently was to saute the diced onion with a sprinkling of garlic powder and paprika for about 5 minutes before mixing it with the other ingredients. Then just bake as directed, and voila! A delicious dip worthy of serving to Don Draper and company!

a very mad men evening!
