Camcorder Question

I apologize in advance for the boring nature of this post...

We already know that I am the least technically savvy person out there. But lately I have had the urge to video tape my outings and activities - whether it be to share here on my blog or just to have so I can share with my family & friends. My life is not that exciting, but there are definitely times where I want to shoot a little video or capture a memory in another form besides a photograph.

This leads me to a question - do any of you have the Flip UltraHD device? I saw these going around last year (my parents and brothers all got one for Christmas) and I've wanted one ever since. I've read mixed reviews on the device so I thought I'd ask you guys for a recommendation. Please keep in mind that I have no desire to be "fancy" with what I'm doing and I don't need a $1,000+ camera/recorder to be happy.

I like that the Flip is reasonably priced (the 4GB is currently only $47.99 at Best Buy), has a one hour recording time (which is definitely plenty for what I want to do with it or I could get the 8GB which records 2 hours), and that it's easy to upload and edit videos using the FlipShare software.

But then I get confused by reviews that say negative things like 1) the battery doesn't last; 2) Flip's being labeled as 3rd Generation when they're really 2nd G (which has a battery bug); 3) horrible video quality; 4) no ability to pause in a video; 5) the company has stopped making this product (why would they do that if it were a good and successful product???); etc., etc., etc....

Please let me know if you have any experiences with the Flip products and if you would recommend them! Why or why not??! Or would you recommend another brand besides Flip, like the Sony Bloggie Touch or something else that I may not even be aware of? Any & all advice/comments will be appreciated :)

We have the flip and I like it. The only problem I ever encountered was when I tried to make a video montage using other software (other than the software that comes with it), I just had to save the video files to a different location. We just it on vaca and casually-probably how you would use it and like it.

I have the Flip MinoHD and I LOVE it. It's so convenient because it's small and is very, very light. It also takes amazing videos and is so easy to use. You'll pick it up right away.

I also made a video montage of a trip I went on through iMovie on my Macbook and it worked perfectly!

I DEFINITELY recommend it. I don't know anyone who has one that hates it or would rather have a different one.

I have a flip. I got in for Christmas last year. So far I haven't had any issues with it, although the only thing I've used it for was to tape my NKOTBSB concert a few months ago. But I'd love to be able to record a vlog on it, and hopefully edit the footage, but I just haven't had a chance to yet.

I love my flip (used it to film my sister's wedding!) BUT I heard they are being phased out and within the next year (I think) the software won't be available. I don't really get what that means. If you can still take and upload videos then I would get it. If that means you can't upload or edit then buy something else

No clue. Anxious to see what you get!

I have the 1st gen (maybe it's the 2nd) Flip and have really enjoyed it. I got it for travel and took it with us to Hawaii. It took some nice vids and definitely does better outdoors in natural light.

I've never tried editing with it, but videos are very easy to upload.

It's something I always mean to use or bring along and somehow always forget. I need to be better about that!
