everything happens for a reason

Last night I arrived home to find a notice taped to my door. It was from the management at our apartment. Lovely. Apparently, we had missed the notice {which I'm pretty sure never got to me} about lease renewals and rate increases. Unbeknown to us, our rent has increased nearly $150 as of August 1, 2009 {umm. that's tomorrow people}. Keep in mind that we've been on a month-to month since our original lease ran out nearly a year ago!

I was angry at first, but after I calmed down, I realized that this is just what we needed to get out of our current apartment. We have known for a long time that we pay nearly $400 more than other neighbors in my complex {due to the time we originally moved in and the lack of nationwide recession} who are getting in for much less, and apartments in the same neighborhood are also much less. But we've been lazy and haven't wanted to deal with the hassle of moving so we've stayed.

NO.NO.NO.

Today, we started looking for a new place.

And I *think* I found us one one so if you could just send good thoughts our way, we would truly appreciate it!

Have a great weekend my lovelies!

It was just such a thing that prompted us to move to Big Bear & eventually (a year later) buy our house. We could never afford to buy in Orange County, & it was getting to the point, with rent increases, that it was hard to afford rent.

Our monthly mortgage is about $400 less than rent in Orange County. (Not including tax & insurance.)

I'm not suggesting that it will work out that way for you, but sometimes this kind of motivation will put you in a better place.

I sure hate moving, tho.

Best of luck finding a better spot.

I have learned to negotiate with my apt manager. They tell me its going up so much and say, no I can pay this at X complex and they'll usually lower it. It might be cheaper than moving.

Seding good thoughts your way! My husband and I are in the same boat-I'm 90% sure we pay more than anone else in our complex! Not fair at all :(

good thoughts sent your way indeed, but also know your rights as a tenant -- in Cali, I think you need 30 days notice for any increase in rent, and if it's more than 10% of your rent, you get 60 days.

Just thought you should know...

Hope you find the perfect place... and once you do, it will be fun setting everything up :o)

(After growing up in a military family & moving every 2 yrs and then marrying military &moving some more... I didnt like the taking down and packing, but I loved the unpacking and setting up! and though we are here for awhile...after a bit, I get that "itchy feet" feeling, like their saying... "is it time to move?"
