Best of the Week (2)

Best of the Week
August 8 - 12, 2011

I know I've been talking a lot about food lately, but I just had to share this one! When C & I were on vacation, his parents had a bag of Pretz-a-bagels at the house. Say whaaaat?! It's a bagel that tastes like a pretzel or is it a pretzel that looks like a bagel? It even comes with a packet of coarse salt that can be sprinkled on top after it's been toasted and buttered. These are currently only available in limited locations, but C's parents shipped us 4 bags of them. Haha, we'll be set for awhile. Look for them the next time you're at the store!

I never thought I'd be the one saying this, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes was actually really, really, really good! Caesar was awesome! This movie might not be for everyone (heck, I didn't even think it would be for me!), but you may be surprised.

Let's keep this week's Best Of short & sweet! I've been battling "cold/virus/it's that time of the month (sorry for the TMI)" symptoms so it's amazing that I was able to even get this together. We have our office-wide annual picnic today, meaning free lunch, the chance to win gift cards via Bingo, water balloon toss, and other assorted activities, and an early start to the weekend!

Have a great two days off folks! See you on Monday!

Best of the Week

Welcome the return of Best of the Week (for this week at least...)! I liked writing this weekly recap so hopefully I can keep some consistency with it, but I make no promises!

I'm just happy because this week flew by for me! Without further ado...

Best of the Week
August 1 - 5, 2011

1. Well, we all knew that I couldn't let the season finale of The Bachelorette pass without mentioning it on my blog! I am so happy for Ashley & JP! Many people hate Ashley and rag on her for being a horrible bachelorette (which I did do that as well), but in the end I think she definitely made the right decision! As for Ashley's sister, I think she was way out of line with her behavior towards JP, but I'm glad that she has since apologized and admitted that she was wrong.

Also, JP tweets now and Ashley has made her account public again!

2. I made a delicious dinner this week, courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow. I will share the how-to and pictures next week for Tuesdays at the Table, but here is a sneak peek:

Yum! The best part was how quick & easy it was!

3. Shark Week! It's scary to see these animals in action, but fascinating! My favorite show this week was Shark City.

As a side note, C & I watched Soul Surfer last night and I cried at least 15 times. Like, legitimately had tears rolling down my face. It was so inspiring and really teaches a lesson that even if bad things happen to good people, it doesn't mean you have to react in a negative way. Instead, try to see the good in everything and every situation!

And one not so "Best of the Week" event:

My bike and I had a fight with the road, and unfortunately, the road won. It wasn't that horrible of a fall, but it still hurts! My hand is bruised from where I fell on it and my side is also bruised up. But luckily I was able to get back up and keep on going! (After remaining on the road for a few seconds...it was embarrassing!)

PS - If you are a biker/runner/walker you should have a RoadID! It's a bracelet that has your name, your emergency contact's number, your insurance number, blood type, known allergies, etc. so in case you are in a bad accident, emergency help will have all of the information they need to help you immediately. Here is mine (info blacked out for obvious reasons):

Have a great weekend!

Best of the Week

Best of the Week
February 21-25, 2011

I'm very excited to announce that C has finally started his blog! He only has a few posts so far, but he's well on his way to becoming addicted to blogging! I think it will mostly be beer reviews, but he'll occasionally blog about food and our weekends as well! Tell your boyfriend/husband/any beer aficionado you know to check it out...I'm sure he'd love to see new followers :)

The Brewtal Yeti (get it?!)

As an update to last week's Best Of, I received my blog book from Blurb, and I couldn't be more pleased! Many of you expressed an interest in turning your blog into a book, and Blurb makes it super easy and affordable. The quality of the book is great, and you have complete control over every aspect of the creation process. I did my book in about 4 hours. It's 102 pages and the total cost (including shipping) was under $40. Here are some pictures of my book:

National Margarita Day was on Tuesday, and margaritas are like my all time favorite beverage! So C made me a yummy margarita to accompany our chicken taco dinner. Thank you internet for telling me about this wonderful celebration!

-----------------------------------------------------

And really, the best of the week is the fact that at 6 pm today, I will be on vacation for 9 glorious days! I am so excited and I've hardly been able to sit through this week without daydreaming about sleeping in and relaxing!

C and I are going to Carlsbad for the weekend. C had an event that ended up getting canceled because of bad weather, but we already had reserved our timeshare. I'm sure we'll find something to do! I am excited about watching the Oscars.

Then on Monday, we are driving to Las Vegas to meet up with my parents, and on Thursday, C's parents are joining us, along with his aunt & uncle, and a couple of cousins. This will be the first time I'm meeting his parents as well as the first time his parents are meeting my parents (obvi). I'm really praying that things go smoothly and everyone gets along. (By the way, this was in no way planned, it was coincidence that our parents were going to be in Vegas the same week so we just decided to get all the introductions over with.)

Come back Monday for an AWESOME giveaway...I am so excited I can hardly stand it, but I'm going to keep my mouth shut for a couple more days! But I do promise that you won't want to miss it! Have a great weekend friends!

Best of the Week

I come across countless things on the internet that I want to share - whether it be a DIY arts & crafts project, a new dinner recipe (more than likely a dessert, though!), a blog (or post) that inspires me, celebrity gossip, a unique etsy find, and the list goes on and on...I thought I'd highlight things I find throughout the week in one post that will happen every Friday.

Best of the Week
February 14-18, 2011

Brownie Covered Oreos - Yes, please! I saw this on Joy's blog but the recipe comes from Lelan over at Hello, Good Gravy!...doesn't it look to-die-for?! It's the simplest to do - dunk oreos in brownie batter (from a box mix) and bake in cupcake tins. I made these Wednesday night and they were so delicious! And dangerous! I had to take the leftovers to work :)

Lyndsey, over at Yellow Brick Blog posted about Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips (and so did penny lane recently). You can see a tutorial on Amber's Notebook (link here). I am a disaster when it comes to doing my own nails, but I'm eager to give this new method a try this weekend. More detailed instructions and tips can be found here.

I've become slightly enamored with Kate Walsh. I recently started watching Private Practice again, and I just love her! She has a new fragrance called Boyfriend, and it sounds very interesting. I usually don't buy into "celebrity fragrances" but this one has some great reviews already. Kate even did a phone interview with fellow blogger, A Blonde Ambition (read here)!

I recently decided to turn my blog into a book (well, at least my posts from 2010)! I used the services of Blurb, and it was a relatively easy experience. I was able to edit, format, and make my book exactly how I wanted it. The cost to have it printed was very reasonable as well. I'm excited to have a book featuring my blog posts and I know it's something I will cherish forever.

PS - I used the code "NEWBLURB" for 20% off my order!

this is a preview format]
